Ever wonder how we create those wonderful monsters you see inside the Powerhouse of Terror? In this episode of Hauntventures, we show you how we sculpted a special fx make-up appliance that will be used to turn one of our actors into a disgusting creature in the 2012 haunted house. Prosthetics are a great way to add some authentic detail and gore to a character, and although there are some really amazing pieces on the market, making your own can allow you to create exactly what you are looking for.

Graveyards can be a great place to look for some inspiration in your haunted house. Just look at the detail in those old tombstones with the corners crumbling away, the epitaph worn away from time and barely visible, the design and detail in the cast iron fences, and the unsettling feeling that those looming trees create. Come with us as we take a walk through an old graveyard we stumbled upon and couldn’t resist checking out.

One of the things that will help make a haunted house stand out, is the attention detail. At the Powerhouse of Terror, we feel that adding those extra touches can help to blur the lines between actual reality and the reality we are creating for our customer. We want them to question whether or not what they just experienced was real and having that extra layer of detail only enhances that. Have a look at Noah, our youngest volunteer, adding some finishing touches in the storage room of CarnEvil Manor.

At the Powerhouse of Terror, we like to keep our haunted house scare team involved year round with fun team building days like this. The team headed out to Infinite Paintball for a little pain but a lot of fun. Some of the volunteers were first time paintballers, so it was a learning experience as well. We would like to give a special thanks to one of our oldest team leaders, Paul Jessome for organizing this awesome event. Thanks Paul!!!! It was such a blast and we hope to see you all at the next event…. “Zombie Skate”!!!!!

Have you ever noticed how people react (or don’t react at all) when something out of the ordinary is happening in a usually ordinary setting? Watch as we venture into a local grocery store looking like we had just been involved in some terrible accident. Blood, scrapes and open wounds were created using special fx make-up in hopes that we could creep out some shoppers and employees. Watch and see what happens.
Hauntityourself will be producing a special fx make up series. We will have detailed tutorials filled with step-by-step information so you can re-create the scary looks we produce in the videos. We will show you proper care for your makeup and brushes, as well as brush stroke techniques to achieve different creepy effects.
