How can you help SickKids?
Research
This is the most important way you can help the hospital.
Donations from the community are the backbone of every research discovery and help prevent
and treat childhood diseases. Schools can support all kinds of cool research, like studying zebra fish to
figure out what causes heart defects and brain malformations.
Scientists can study a zebra fish and watch it grow because guess what,
they are see-through! Even studying fruit flies (those pesky little critters you sometimes see
floating around your banana in your lunch bag!) can help kids get better because
they help to identify disease-causing genes.
Genes are the things that determine physical traits: how we look, how we laugh,
and for some patient's at SickKids, why they get sick.
The SickKids Priorities Fund
The SickKids Priorities Fund allows the Foundation the flexibility to provide
the hospital with the things that they need most. This means a great deal to
the hospital and of course to the kids; it means that they can count on the
special care and the latest in medical technology to help them get better, faster.
At SickKids, things like beds and stretchers are getting old fast and are
sometimes hard to repair. Just imagine being sick and not having the comfort
of your own bed; now imagine that in the hospital. The fund also help to
purchase state-of-the-art equipment; like Smart IV Pumps that help give the
right amount of medication at the right time to young patients.
Why SickKids?
- Because SickKids is a national treasure and one of the top five children's hospital's in the world,
- Because SickKids cares for over 100,000 sick and injured children every year.
- Because children are 25% of the population and 100% of the future
- Because improving children's health requires the support of each and every one of us.
- Because the research being done at SickKids can prevent and treat childhood diseases
- Because it's simple. "Healthier Children. A Better World."
